Chaitanya, an NGO based out of Maharashtra, has pioneered the growth and formalisation of SHGs for women in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) and Chhaaya Strategic Advisors were approached to conduct a field study of the women and their families to gauge the impact of Chaitanya’s 30-year body of work.

Our Role: Helm supported TISS and Chhaaya on the project by contributing to the survey data collection data management, and project coordination support to successfully document the experiences of 1600 households in 8 districts of Maharashtra. The effort culminated in the publishing of the report titled ‘Sure And Steady Steps Towards Empowerment: Women in Chaitanya promoted SHGs and Federations’.
