The Everyday Series: Gender (Honest & Open Conversations)
Today, we are all in a state of discomfort and internal questioning to some degree with our gender identities. We don’t know how much of who we are is our real self, how much is what we have been conditioned towards - from the unique upbringings we’ve had, from the places we grew up, from the people and experiences we’ve been exposed to, and how much of ourselves are we even conscious of.
We all have stories, what we don’t have is a shared narrative.
Consent, intimacy, love, sexuality, femininity, masculinity, relationships, abuse are all words that have become part of our everyday equations - within families, between partners, at work and in public, and rightly so.
None of us has a clear answer on how to define any of these, but maybe together we can build a shared understanding of them, that is inclusive, useful and applicable in our everyday lives.
This session is our attempt to hold and facilitate honest, open conversations that are inclusive to everyone. If you are someone struggling to understand what the whole #metoo movement is really about or how it will help, if you are someone who has experienced violence or violation of any kind, if you are someone who has been worried about whether your behaviour has been problematic towards another, if you have hurt someone unintentionally and don’t know what to do, if you are afraid, if you have questions, if you have ideas, if you have a story, please come.
This space belongs to anyone who is willing to openly share their thoughts, but also equally open to changing the way they think.
We don’t aim to resolve or find a conclusion in 2 hours, but we hope to start a conversation, that you can carry forward into your everyday life.
The session will be a combination of storytelling, workshop activities and discourse.
